
Seton Hall Falls to St. John's, 3-0

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Junior Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) had a team-high 11 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to St. John's, 3-0, on Friday in Walsh Gymnasium.

Turner had a team-best 11 kills and only three attack errors. She also had a team-high .364 attack percentage. Freshmen Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) and Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) also had strong matches. Lucas finished one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs. Jakubowski finished one dig shy of a double-double with a team-high 23 assists and nine digs.

SET 1:
Seton Hall grabbed an early 9-5 lead, which prompted a St. John's timeout. Out of the break, the Red Storm bounced back, outscoring the Pirates, 11-3, to take a 16-12 lead. A Red Storm attack error cut the St. John's lead to 17-15, but they rebounded with an 8-1 run to close out the set. The Pirates started well, but ultimately attacked at only a .040 clip during the set.

SET 2:
A kill by Tsvetelina Ilieva (Sofia, Bulgaria) cut The Hall's deficit to 6-5 early in set two, but St. John's rallied with six straight to pull away, 11-5. A kill by Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) brought The Hall to within 11-8, but the Red Storm scored four of the next five points to claim a 15-9 advantage. The Pirates drew to within a single point on three different occasions, but couldn't draw even. An Ilieva kill cut the Pirate deficit to 19-18, but the Red Storm closed the set with six of the final seven points.

The Pirates started strong again with six of the first eight points in set three, but St. John's responded with a 9-3 run to claim an 11-9 lead. A kill by Lucas tied the set at 14, but the Red Storm scored seven of the next nine points to jump back ahead, 21-16. Trailing 24-19, the Pirates scored twice to extend the match, but ultimately fell, 25-21.

Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow when it hosts St. John's for a second straight day at Walsh Gymnasium. Match time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET.
