South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall men's soccer team finds itself at the #25 spot in two national polls and receiving votes in a third for the week of March 9. This is the first time the Pirates have been ranked nationally since 2006.
After receiving consideration from TopDrawerSoccer.com last week, the Pirates were able to crack the rankings after a tough road setback at Georgetown, 2-1 in OT on Wednesday and a 0-0 draw at UConn on Saturday. The Hoyas are currently ranked as a top-three team across all national polls.
The Pirates also find themselves at number 25 as ranked by CollegeSoccerNews.com and receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll. The Hall currently ranks second in the BIG EAST in both goals and assists. On the defensive end, the Pirates are tied with Providence in shutouts with four blank sheets apiece.
In addition to team honors, the Pirates have also been honored by the conference's weekly honors each of the past three weeks. Jake Barrett (Huddersfield, England) picked up Freshman of the Week honors with Paavo Riihijarvi (Oulu, Finland) earning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. JP Marin (Briarwood, N.Y.) and Andreas Nota (Rome, Italy) each earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.
In addition to Georgetown, Providence is also represented across the polls. The Pirates will take on the Friars on Saturday.
Seton Hall will look to remain undefeated at home this season when they host Villanova on Wednesday at Owen T. Carroll Field. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
