NEW YORK – Seton Hall's Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) was named to the 2021 All-BIG EAST Second Team, the conference announced on Wednesday. Arteaga hit .327 during conference play with a home run and 10 runs batted in. The left fielder was also perfect in the field with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
The second team nomination is the second All-BIG EAST recognition for Arteaga who was named to the conference's first team back in 2019 after she was only the second player in program history to hit over .400 in a single season.
The conference teams consisted of 12 players made up of at least two pitchers, with the remaining spots selected at-large. Selections were voted on by the league's head coaches who are not allowed to vote for their own players or coaching staffs.
For her career, Arteaga ranks top-15 in program history in games (199), batting average (.304), runs scored (96), home runs (20) and walks (56). The California-native is also top-5 in starts (196), at-bats (611), hits (186), doubles (42) and RBIs (123) while maintain a perfect fielder percentage over five seasons.
The Pirates have now had an All-BIG EAST selection in eight straight seasons dating back to 2013. The conference did not award all-conference honors last season due to the COVID-19 cancellation.
