Pirates Top Marquette to Remain Unbeaten in BIG EAST Play

How it Happened
Marquette opened the scoring early, as Edrey Caceres fired one home from the top of the box in the eighth minute to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Later in the opening half, the Pirates would equalize. JP Marin (Briarwood, N.Y.) found Johannes Pex (Stephansposching, Germany) down the far touch line. Pex fed a cross into the box, which found the head of Mattias Almeida Sundell (Sweden), who headed one past Marquette goalkeeper Ludvig Malberg into the back of the net.

The Golden Eagles nearly took the lead back in the early stages of the second half, but a pair of strong plays in net prevented a goal. The first came from Luca Dahn (Kahl, Germany) who was in the right place at the right time as he used his head to deflect a shot from Caceres away from danger. Just over a minute later, Hannes Ronnholmen (Stockholm, Sweden) made a strong save on a point blank opportunity from Lukas Sunesson.

The Pirates' second goal would come soon after those two defensive plays. Pex played a cross into the box off a corner kick, and Paavo Riihijarvi (Oulu, Finland) got his head to it to score his first goal of the season.

Marquette would equalize in the 64th minute, as Beto Soto fired one past Ronnholmen after a scramble near the top of the penalty area. Ten minutes later, magic would strike for the Pirates.
After forcing a turnover in his defensive half, Huerman looked up and saw Malberg off his line at the other end of the pitch. The junior struck one with his left foot from behind the midfield stripe, bouncing it on one hop into the back of the net for the game-winning goal in the 74th minute.
