Storrs, Conn. – Seton Hall picked up three points on Saturday night, taking down UConn, 1-0. Mattias Almeida Sundell (Sweden) scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute, as the Pirates currently sit tied atop the BIG EAST standings with Xavier.
How it Happened
UConn had the bulk of the chances throughout the night, but were unable to cash in. The best early opportunity for the Huskies came from Nicolas Tomerius, who fired a shot from the top of the penalty area looking to go bar down. Hannes Ronnholmen (Stockholm, Sweden) was able to leap high and punch the ball away from danger to keep the match scoreless early.
In the 21st minute, JP Marin (Briarwood, N.Y.) recorded one of the Pirates' two shots on the night. Marin struck one from the corner of the 18-yard box looking for the back post, but it trickled just wide.
Seton Hall would not register a shot until the 70th minute, and it was a shot that would give the Pirates the lead and eventual victory. Ralph Pascarella (Bellmore, N.Y.) made a run towards the attacking third and took a pass from Axel Berglund (Turku, Finland). Pascarella centered one into the box, where it found Sundell who blasted it into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
News & Notes
The Pirates will head to Milwaukee on Wednesday for a matchup with Marquette. Kickoff is set for 8:05 p.m.
