
Walsh, Wallace Push Pirates Past Hoyas, 3-1

The Hall guarantees a .500 season as Walsh and Wallace go off for a combined 34 kills.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Sophomore Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and junior Laila Wallace (Munster, Ind.) combined for 34 kills and only five attack errors as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team defeated Georgetown, 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16), in Walsh Gym on Friday.

Seton Hall's victory improves it to 15-14 overall and ensures a .500 season in head coach Shannon Thompson's first year at the helm.

Walsh finished with 18 kills, only three attack errors, a .417 attack percentage and eight digs, while Wallace had 16 kills, only two attack errors, a .519 attack percentage and three blocks.

Junior Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) notched her team-leading 11th double-double of the year with 19 assists and 11 digs.

SET 1:
Seton Hall led for the majority of the opening set and held Georgetown to just a .053 attack percentage. With the score tied at 12, The Hall scored four straight, and a kill by Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) gave it a 16-12 lead. The Hoyas cut their deficit to just one point, 18-17, but the Pirates responded with a 6-1 run to enter set point, 24-18. Three points later, another Lucas kill gave The Hall a 25-21 lead.

SET 2:
The Pirates continued to play well offensively, but Georgetown's offensive picked up considerably in the second set. Although a close affair, the Hoyas never trailed. A kill by Maddie Klungel (Napa, Calif.) cut The Hall's deficit to 10-8, but Georgetown responded with a 5-1 burst to grab a 15-9 advantage. The Pirates closed the gap to two points, 23-21, but the Hoyas closed out a 25-22 set two win to tie the match.

Georgetown led for the majority of the third set, but the Pirates came on strong late. Trailing 16-12, The Hall went on an 8-1 run, and block by Wallace and Klungel gave it a 20-17 lead and sent the Hoyas to a timeout. Ahead 21-19, the Pirates closed out the set with four of the final five points. A Hoyas attack error put The Hall in set point, and a kill by Walsh ended it, 25-20.

The fourth set saw a dominant offensive performance by the Pirates with 18 kills, only three attack errors and a .469 attack percentage. Meanwhile, they held the Hoyas to just .038. Seton Hall scored eight of the first 11 points of the set to establish the tone. Leading 15-11, the Pirates took off again, going on an 8-2 run, and a kill by Wallace gave them a commanding 23-13 lead. Up, 23-16, back-to-back kills by Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) won the match for The Hall.
