Smith Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NEW YORK – Following a solid weekend both in the circle and at the plate, Seton Hall softball's Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll the conference announced on Monday. Smith tossed 13 innings for the Pirates over two games against Providence with a 1.08 ERA and eight strikeouts.
In The Hall's win over Providence on Thursday, Smith tossed a complete-game shutout allowing just three hits while striking out four. The junior also went 3-for-4 at the dish with a three-run home run to break the game open in addition to an RBI single earlier in the ballgame. On Friday, Smith struck out four while surrendering just two runs over seven innings.
Smith leads the Pirates in RBIs this season with 14 and is second on the team in home runs with four. The left-hander also leads the Pirates in ERA with a 3.37 mark over 54 innings with a team-best 43 punchouts. This is Smith's second time on the conference's weekly honor list.
Seton Hall will be back in action this weekend as they open up a three-game set with BIG EAST foe Creighton starting on Friday.
