Shelby Smith's Dominant Weekend Lands Her on BIG EAST Honor Roll

NEW YORK - After tossing 20 innings over two games and striking out 20, junior Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) has earned a spot on the BIG EAST weekly honor roll, the conference office announced Monday.
This is Smith's third recognition of the season. She was on the honor roll on March 14 and was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on March 21.
Smith started last Friday against DePaul and threw all 13 innings, racking up 11 strikeouts and surrendering just two runs, one earned. She then came back on Sunday and threw seven more innings and picked up nine more punchouts.
Beyond her performance on the mound, Smith also reached base seven times over the three games on the weekend.
For the season on the mound, Smith is sporting a 2.79 ERA and has 93 strikeouts in 108 innings, and at the plate, she is hitting .309 with a team-best seven home runs and 21 RBI.
Smith and the Pirates have four games lined up this week. They will play at Rutgers Tuesday before heading to Georgetown for a three-game BIG EAST series Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
