Pirates Down Princeton to Close Non-Conference Action

South Orange, N.J. – Thanks to another strong offensive effort, the Seton Hall men's soccer team closed out non-conference play with a 3-1 victory over Princeton on Tuesday night at Owen T. Carroll Field. With the win, the Pirates now sit at 6-3-3 overall on the season with four matches remaining in the regular season.

How it Happened
The Pirates got the offense started early, getting on the board inside the first 10 minutes of action. Jared Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) came into possession in the midfield and moved into the attacking third. Smith moved the ball out wide to Sam Bjork (Huskvarna, Sweden), who with a one-touch flick sent it into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

Shortly after, Princeton were able to equalize after Daniel Ittycheria buried a penalty kick in the 15^th minute. However, the Pirates regrouped to regain the lead just six minutes later. Andrea Borg (Sliema, Malta) gained possession at the midfield stripe and sprinted down the pitch. Borg blasted a shot from the edge of the penalty area into the top left corner of the goal to give Seton Hall a 2-1 advantage.

The Pirates were able to nurse the 2-1 lead into halftime and play a strong possession game in the second half to keep the advantage. With just over 10 minutes remaining, they would add insurance to help secure the victory. Virgil Dall'Agnol (Grenoble, France) played a perfect timing pass to Tim Ströbeck (Hasselholm, Sweden), who stayed onside and blasted home his third goal of the season.

News & Notes

Bjork's goal was the fifth goal scored by the Pirates within the first 10 minutes of a match this season.
Smith picked up two assists on the night, notching his fourth multi-point effort this season.
Strobeck found the back of the net for the first time since scoring against Bucknell on Sept. 19.
Borg scored for the second consecutive match and extends his career-high goal total to five.
With the win, the Pirates are unbeaten in each of their last 12 home non-conference matches.
