Chicago, Ill – Seton Hall men's soccer dropped its final road match of the regular season on Saturday at DePaul by a final score of 3-1.
How it Happened
The Blue Demons got off to an early lead, as a turnover led to a DePaul counterattack in the 14th minute. Noeh Hernandez found space on the near side of the box, and rocketed a shot that was ticketed towards goal but deflected over the line off the head of Rikard Cederberg (Gothenburg, Sweden). Later in the half, Hernandez would add a second tally to give the hosts a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Pirates would cut the deficit in half after a beautiful goal from James Boote (Southampton, England). After being awarded a free kick adjacent to the end line on the far side of the goal, Boote stepped up to send the ball back into play. The graduate was able to curl the ball towards the back post, deflecting off of it and into the goal for his fifth of the season.
Despite giving up the goal, DePaul were able to thwart the Pirates' momentum thanks to a goal from Marek Gonda in the 57th minute to make it a 3-1 game. The Pirates were able to get several looks on goal over the final half hour of play, but none were able to make it past DePaul goalkeeper Santiago Davila.
News & Notes
The Pirates will wrap up the regular season next Saturday as they host Providence at 2 p.m. with a BIG EAST Tournament berth on the line. Senior Day ceremonies will also take place prior to kickoff.
