The Pirates will return to South Orange for their home opener this weekend as they kick off a three-game series with Creighton on Friday.
Game 1: Seton Hall 3, Rider 0
How it Happened
- Carr had the strikeout pitch working right out of the gates, fanning the first two batters she faced as well as striking out the side in the second.
- The Pirates would strand six runners on base through the first four innings, including leaving the bases loaded in the top of the first.
- In the fifth, The Hall finally broke through. Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) doubled to start the inning and would later score on an Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.) RBI single. A second run would score later in the inning after Caroline Hobbes (Bay Shore, N.Y.) reached on an error which allowed Miranda Arruda (Pawcatuck, Conn.) to cross home plate.
- In the sixth, Lauren Caye (Pittsburgh, Pa.) kept up her hot hitting with a solo home run to grow the lead to 3-0.
- The Broncs would threaten in the bottom of the sixth by putting the first two batters aboard. After a bunt moved both runners into scoring position, Carr picked up back-to-back strikeouts to escape the inning.
- Carr's 12 strikeouts are a new career-high, surpassing her previous best of 11 which came on March 12, 2023 at UConn.
- This is Carr's second double digit strikeout performance of the season, as she punched out 10 against FIU back on March 1.
- The three base hits are the fewest Carr has allowed across her eight starts this year.
- Taylor Soanes (Missouri City, Texas) got the start at the designated player spot in the batting order, going 2-for-3 on the game.
- Hill's leadoff double was the 37th of her career, moving her into a tie with Kealan Waldron for seventh in program history.
How it Happened
- The Pirates' offense struck in the top of the second, as Erin Howard (Skillman, N.J.) laced a single to left field. A misplay by the left fielder allowed both Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Hobbes to come around and score.
- More offense came in the third, as Gilbert and Katey Brennan (Yardley, Pa.) launched back-to-back home runs to make it a 4-0 Seton Hall lead.
- Kreuscher got the start for the Pirates and worked her way out of trouble in the middle innings. In the third, Rider put the first two batters on base to open the inning, but Kreushcer was able to dodge any further trouble. In the fourth, the Broncs collect three hits, but none were able to cross home plate as the sophomore escaped unscathed.
- Allen helped pad the Pirate lead in the seventh, roping a two-run single down the right field line to score Brennan and Gilbert.
- The win is the Pirates' fifth straight and moves the team to .500 on the season for the first time.
- The Pirates hit back-to-back home runs for the second time this season, also doing so on Saturday at Georgetown. Gilbert was part of both instances, going back-to-back with Carr in the win over the Hoyas.
- Gilbert has reached base safely in each of the last 14 games.
- Brennan's home run was her second of the season and of her career.
