
Pirates Outlast Georgetown for Key Road Win, 58-52

Mariana Valenzuela erupted for a game-high 19 points.
WASHINGTON , D.C. – Mariana Valenzuela (Mazatlan, Mexico) had a game-high 19 points as the Seton Hall women's basketball team rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit to outlast Georgetown, 58-52, on Thursday.
Seton Hall trailed entering the third quarter, but held the Hoyas scoreless for the first 6:12 of the fourth to grab the lead for good. The Pirates improve to 9-3 in the BIG EAST and claim their fourth conference road victory of the season. Today's victory is a quad two win for The Hall.
Valenzuela had 19 points on the strength of 3-for-6 from three-point range with four rebounds. Junior Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) finished with 17 points, four rebounds and three steals She was also 9-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Sophomore Ja'Kahla Craft (Elk River, Minn.) gave The Hall a huge boost off the bench, finishing with eight points, three rebounds and two steals in a career-high 26 minutes.
THE STORY:
A minute and 10 seconds into the game, the Pirates already outscored their first-quarter total the last time The Hall was in Washington, D.C. The Hall was outscored 21-2 in the first 10 minutes two years ago before rallying to win. A three-pointer by Catalon gave The Hall a 5-0 lead to start this one. Trailing 8-7, The Hall went on a 6-0 burst to grab a 13-8 advantage with 5:25 left in the first. Seton Hall shot 57 percent from the floor and was 6-for-8 from three-point range in the quarter and took a 22-16 lead into the second.
Georgetown scored eight of the first 10 points in the second quarter to tie the score, but The Hall closed out the half with a 7-2 burst to take a 31-26 lead into the break. In a defensive battle, the teams combined for 19 first-half turnovers.
For a second straight quarter, The Hall got off to a tough start as Georgetown opened the third with a 9-3 run to take a 35-34 lead with 5:17 left. Seton Hall, however, responded with a 7-0 run, highlighted by a made corner three-pointer by Valenzuela, to grab a 41-35 advantage with 2:47 left in the third. The Hoyas closed out the third with a 7-0 burst to take a one-point lead into the fourth.
