SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – With five players marked as "out" to start the game, the undermanned Seton Hall women's basketball team couldn't bounce back from a nightmarish second quarter and fell to Villanova, 82-52, in Walsh Gymnasium on Thursday.

The game was lost for the Pirates in the second frame as Villanova out-scored The Hall 21-6 and held them without a made field goal for the final 8:46 before halftime. Villanova's Jasmine Bascoe scored 22 points in the first half, matching Seton Hall's team total in the first 20 minutes.

In a season already laden with injuries, the Pirates were bit again as starting point guard Natalia Hall-Rosa (Randolph, Mass.) left late in the game with an apparent hand injury. Hall-Rosa was the fourth starting point guard Seton Hall has utilized this season.

Freshman Zahara Bishop (Minneapolis, Minn.) had a team-high 19 points to go with five rebounds. Junior Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) logged 14 points and five rebounds. Hall-Rosa picked up career-highs of nine points, five rebounds and four assists before leaving the game for good in the fourth quarter.

THE STORY:
Villanova grabbed an early 5-3 lead, but Seton Hall went on a 7-0 burst, and a made three-pointer by Hall-Rosa gave the Pirates a 10-5 lead with 5:46 left in the first quarter. The Wildcats answered back with a 16-3 run to grab a 21-13 advantage with 29 seconds left in the first. Catalon hit a three-pointer just before the buzzer to send The Hall into the second down five points.

A layup by Bishop cut The Hall's deficit to 26-18 with 8:46 left before halftime, but then Seton Hall went without a made field goal for the remainder of the quarter. In that time, Villanova went on an 18-4 run to grab a commanding 42-22 lead at the break. The Pirates were just 1-for-7 from the floor in the second quarter and committed eight turnovers.

Seton Hall shot 40 percent from the floor in the third quarter, and scored 18 points, but Villanova's lead actually increased, taking a 64-40 lead into the final quarter. In the fourth, The Hall never got closer than a 21-point deficit.

THE NUMBERS:

Seton Hall was 18-for-50 (36.0%) from the floor for the game, while Villanova was 29-for-62 (46.8%). The Hall was 4-for-17 (23.5%) from three-point range, while the Wildcats were 12-for-32 (37.5%).
Bishop had a team-high 19 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the floor with five rebounds and two assists.
Villanova out-rebounded the Pirates, 35-to-31, which included a 9-to-8 edge on the offensive glass.
Catalon had 14 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Seton Hall was 12-for-16 (75.0%) from the free-throw line, while Villanova was 12-for-12 (100.0%).
Hall-Rosa collected career-high nine points, five rebounds and four assists in 30 minutes.
Seton Hall forced 12 turnovers, while the Wildcats forced 22. The Hall had a 31-to-10 advantage in points-off-turnovers.

THE NOTES:

Seton Hall drops to 18-10 overall and 12-7 in the BIG EAST, while Villanova closes its regular season with a 23-6 record overall and 16-4 in conference play.
The Pirates fall to 53-26 all-time against Villanova and have dropped seven of the last eight games in the series.
With a steal tonight, Catalon moves into a tie with former Pirate Kathy O'Reilly into ninth place on Seton Hall's career list with 195. Furthermore, she moves into sixth place on the Pirates' single-season list with 79.
Tonight's game was Hall-Rosa's first career start.
With four made free throws tonight, Catalon into a tie with Dana Wynne for 11^th place on the single-season list with 118.
