Seton Hall softball head coach Paige Smith announced that Colin Christiansen was been hired as an assistant coach with the program on August 3, 2018. Christiansen comes to The Hall after spending the last two seasons as an assistant with UMBC.
“Coach Christiansen is a young and talented coach with a history of developing pitchers,” Smith said. “He has been a contributor at all levels of the game which has allowed him to become resourceful while learning best practices from the top of the game.”
Christiansen has proven himself a versatile coach in his young coaching career, being able to contribute in multiple areas. In his two seasons with the Retrievers of UMBC, Christiansen worked as the pitching coach as well as the slapping and outfield coach.
Christiansen takes much of his skill in the game of softball from playing in a men’s fast pitch league, which he has been involved in since 2012. Christiansen has a fastball that clocks in at 64 MPH, part of his wide repertoire of pitches.
Christiansen’s previous roles included a stint at the University of Tennessee where he worked as a Graduate Manager in the fall of 2016. In Knoxville, he was immersed in a program led by the tandem of Ralph and Karen Weekly, both of whom have amassed over 1,000 wins at the helm of the program.
“With his experience at Tennessee and being a slapper himself, he will be an integral part of developing our speed game,” Coach Smith added.
Christiansen graduated from Mount St. Mary’s University in 2016 with a degree in sports management and a minor in business.
