Swenda Powers Men's Soccer Past Providence, 5-0

Seton Hall, which has won four straight games, improves to 8-5 overall and 4-4 in BIG EAST play. Providence falls to 3-9-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the conference.
Swenda scored both of his goals in a 14-second span midway through the first half. Senior John Wuebbeling (St. Peter's, MO) fed a pass over the Providence defense to Swenda who lobbed a shot over charging Friar goalkeeper Danny Glynn at the 18:46 mark of the first half.
Junior Luke Serafin (Piscataway, NJ) intercepted the ensuing Providence kickoff and passed the ball to senior Brian Cuddy (North Brunswick, NJ). Cuddy crossed the ball to Swenda who converted at close range, giving the Pirates a 2-0 lead at 19:00.
Seton Hall increased its lead to 3-0 when Swenda took control of a Cuddy corner kick and passed the ball back to senior Arda Altincatal (Bogota, NJ) at the top of the penalty area. Altincatal scored on a drive to the lower left corner at 31:32.
Freshman midfielder Ryan McGowan (Sparta, NJ) scored his first collegiate goal at 48:23 and junior forward Greg Strohmann (Wehrheim, Germany) headed in a rebound at 50:38 to complete the Seton Hall scoring.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alex McDonald (Seven Valleys, PA) stopped five shots to earn his third straight shutout for Seton Hall. Danny Glynn made eight saves for Providence, which was outshot 21-10.
Seton Hall returns to action on Friday, October 20 when it hosts West Virginia University in a BIG EAST Conference game at 3 p.m.
