Seton Hall Softball Splits Pair Of Games With La Salle

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The Seton Hall University softball team split a pair of games with the La Salle Explorers, as the Pirates took the first game 3-0 and La Salle won the second, 6-4. With the split the Pirates record is 6-6 and La Salle is 6-20.
In the first game freshman pitcher Christina Shanko (Delmont, PA) held La Salle hitless through six innings before giving up her lone hit in the seventh. Shanko retired 13 batters in a row and struck out 13 batters en-route to winning her third straight game. The Pirates got all the offense they needed in the third when three different players drove in runs. Amy Lynn Mellin (Petaluma, CA) knocked in the winning run when she doubled to right center to drive in Melissa Kern (Montclair, NJ). Mellin later scored when Kim Jackson (Rockaway, NJ) drove her in with a sacrifice fly.
In the second game La Salle got on the board first when they scored three times in the top of the third. The Pirates battled back when Vickie Lamb (Yorktown Heights, NY) blasted a three-run home run in the fourth inning to bring the Pirates to with in one run at 4-3. The Explorer's answered with runs of they're own in the fifth and sixth. Lamb finished the day 2-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Shanko relieved Misty Beaver (Machesney Park, IL) in the fifth, striking out two and giving up only two hits.
The Pirates return to action when they travel to Lafayette on Mar. 28.
