Softball Splits Doubleheader With Villanova

Beaver struck out three in seven innings of work to improve to 3-4 on the season. The Pirates scored their only run of the game in the second inning when junior outfielder Kerry Kirk (Ramsey, NJ) drove in junior first baseman Vickie Lamb (Yorktown Heights, NY) with an RBI single.
In game two, freshman Christina Shanko (Delmont, PA) took the loss for the Pirates, allowing five runs, only one earned, on eight hits in six innings. Seton Hall could manage only one run in the fourth inning when Kirk scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore outfielder Ali Remakus (Hallstead, PA). The Pirates had eight hits but left 13 runners on base in the contest.
Lamb, sophomore Kim Jackson (Rockaway, NJ) and junior Melissa Kern (Montclair, NJ) each collected two hits in the second game. Heather Garboden and Sara Carlson each knocked in two runs for the Wildcats, who improved to 13-7-1 and 1-1 the league.
Seton Hall will travel to Piscataway, NJ, to take on Rutgers in a noon doubleheader on Sunday, April 2.
