Softball Splits Doubleheader With Rutgers

In the first game, freshman pitcher Christina Shanko (6-2) went the distance, allowing one run on three hits and striking out eight. The Pirates plated runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings off Rutgers starter Andria Koehler (4-5). The Pirates managed eight hits by seven different players. Senior Tammy Timko had an RBI single in the first inning to get the Pirates on the board, and Seton Hall added a run in the fifth when junior Vickie Lamb was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and again in the sixth when sophomore Ranae Bart stole home.
In game two, junior Misty Beaver (3-5) pitched brilliantly but took the loss as the Pirates could not manage a hit off of Rutgers starter Leah Black (6-4). Beaver struck out nine and allowed just one run on five hits over seven innings. Black threw a no-hitter and faced just one batter over the minimum when she walked Kim Jackson in the seventh inning.
Seton Hall hosts Monmouth on Tuesday, April 4 at 3:00 pm at Cameron Field in South Orange.
