Women's Tennis Falls To Syracuse 8-1

SYRACUSE, NY (April 9,2000)-The Seton Hall women's tennis team's nine game winning streak came to an end on Sunday, as they dropped their first BIG EAST match of the season, 8-1, to Syracuse University. The loss brings the squad's record to 4-1 in the BIG EAST and 12-5 on the season.

The Orangewomen took five of the six singles points, from the Pirates. The only singles match won by the Pirates was by senior tri-captain Laura McCracken (Greystones, Ireland), who defeated Anna Khvalina 7-6, 6-3 in the No.2 singles spot. At the No. 5 spot, fellow senior tri- captain Judy McAuley (Loughlinstown, Ireland) almost pulled out a three-set win but fell 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to Zuzanna Borucha.

Pirates were shutdown by Syracuse who took all three doubles matches. At the top spot, McCracken and Kyli LaSalle (New Iberia, LA) almost topped Khvalina and Lai but lost 8-6. At No. 2 doubles Pille Arike (Tallin, Estonia) and McAuley fell to Michelle Neveklovska and Masha Kabanova, 8-2. In another close match Morgan Whitlock (Wilson, NC) and Jasmine Wolcott (Ft. Collins, CO) lost to Borucka and Shervin Saedinia at the No. 3 position, 8-5.

The Pirates returns into action Sunday, April 16 in their last match of the regular season against BIG EAST rival UCONN.
