The game was the BIG EAST opener for tenth-ranked Connecticut (2-1, 1-0). Seton Hall, ranked 18th entering the week, lost its second straight BIG EAST game, dropping to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Cuellar scored his first goal in the 35th minute with Sam Forko and Mansour Ndiaye assisting as the Huskies carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.
UConn scored twice in the first four minutes of the second half to put the game out of reach. Junior Chris Gbandi converted a penalty kick at 46:15 and Cuellar scored at 48:48 at the Huskies pulled away. Cuellar completed the hat trick at 81:03 off an assist from David Castellanos.
Connecticut goalkeeper Bryheem Hancock stopped three shots to earn the shutout. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex McDonald (Seven Valleys, PA) made three saves in a losing effort for Seton Hall.
Seton Hall returns to action on Wednesday, September 13 when it hosts Rutgers University in a 3 p.m. BIG EAST game at Owen T. Carroll Field.
