Men's Soccer's Christos Zisimatos Earns Weekly Awards

Christos Zisimatos earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after helping SHU extend its win streak to four games.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Senior Christos Zisimatos of the Seton Hall men's soccer team was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on the College Soccer News' "Team of the Week" after leading the Pirates to a pair of wins last week. He scored the game-winning goal against Princeton on Oct. 18 and then helped the Pirates shutout third-ranked Connecticut on Saturday. The 1-0 win over UConn, moved SHU into sole possession of first place in the BIG EAST Blue Division with a 5-2-2 record.

Zisimatos, a defender, played an integral role in helping 20th-ranked Seton Hall upend No. 3 Connecticut, 1-0, at NJIT's Luetkin Field. The senior was part of a backline that limited the Huskies to just four shots on goal and helped the Pirates collect their fifth shutout of the year. UConn entered the game averaging just over two goals per game.

Zisimatos scored his first career game-winning goal when he rocketed a shot from 35 yards out that found the top right corner to give SHU a 2-1 lead. The Pirates went on to defeat the Tigers, 3-1. SHU allowed just six shots in the game, only three of them were on goal. Zisimatos played a role in holding Princeton's top two scorers, Darren Spicer and Adrian Melville, to just two shots combined.

Seton Hall is riding a four-game win streak and is unbeaten in its last seven contests, going 6-0-1. The Pirates are currently atop the BIG EAST's Blue Division with 17 points and a 5-2-2 record. SHU was ranked as high as No. 20 last week by Soccer America, but should move up following its win over UConn.

Also earning weekly recognition for SHU was junior Sacha Kljestan and Eliseo Giusfredi. They were both mentioned on the BIG EAST’s Weekly Honor Roll for their exploits. Kljestan scored the game-winner against Connecticut and added an assist against Princeton, while Giusfredi scored twice in the win over Princeton.

Seton Hall returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 26, against Marquette. The match is the final regular season home game for SHU this year, and the team's seniors will be honored at the contest.
