SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.- Seton Hall softball coach Ray Vander May announced the 2007 softball schedule on Friday afternoon. The Pirates have 10 home dates on the schedule including nine scheduled as double-headers. Seton Hall begins play on February 16 at the Louisville Slugger Tournament against Sacramento State.
The Pirates will host BIG EAST foes Providence, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Louisville, and South Florida. Seton Hall will travel to Notre Dame, St. John’s, Villanova, and Rutgers to round out the conference schedule.
To open the season, the Pirates head to three tournaments all on the road. From Feb. 16-18, the Pirates travel to Las Vegas, Nev. to compete at the UNLV Louisville Slugger Tournament. On Feb. 23-25, they move to Columbus, Ga., for the NFCA Leadoff Classic. Then on Mar. 2-4, the Pirates go to Tuscaloosa, Ala., where they will play at the Easton Spring Fling hosted by Alabama.
After the tournaments, Seton Hall goes to Farleigh Dickinson, then plays at DePaul and Notre Dame to open up BIG EAST play. The Pirates have their home opener at Ivy Hill Park on Mar. 27 as they face Sacred Heart for two games. Seton Hall’s first BIG EAST match-up is a double-header against Providence on Mar. 31.
The Pirates only have one long stretch away from South Orange after the beginning of the season. From Apr. 12-18, Seton Hall plays double-headers at Iona, Villanova, Rutgers, and Marist.
The team closes the 2007 campaign with five straight home double-headers against Pittsburgh, Syracuse, St. Peter’s, Louisville, and end the season against South Florida on May 6.
