DELAWARE, Ohio – Senior outfielder Caitlin White (Lincoln University, Pa./St. Mark’s) of the Seton Hall softball team was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America First Team for the second year in a row on Wednesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program bestows All-America and All-District academic honors upon student-athletes in both University and College divisions based upon a combination of athletic and academic achievement. The Academic All-America First Team designation is the highest academic individual honor in the nation, while the University Division honors student-athletes from NCAA Division I institutions. A First, Second and Third Team were named.
White earns First Team Academic All-America honors for the second year in a row. She recently completed another strong year for Seton Hall despite a hamstring injury that forced her to miss several games in the middle of the season. A biology major who carried a 3.96 GPA, White played in 38 games, starting 36. The rightfielder hit .321 with 25 runs scored and a team-hit 14 stolen bases, while collecting 35 hits. She was named Seton Hall’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was a CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II First Team honoree earlier in May.
White plans to attend medical school at the University of Pennsylvania.
White (2005 & 2006), Megan Meyer (2004 & 2005) and Kristine Pallazzo (1989) are the only Seton Hall softball players to ever earn Academic All-America status.
