The Seton Hall men's soccer team moved into the NSCAA/adidas Top 25 for the first time in the 2006 season, appearing at No. 21 in the poll released on Tuesday. The Pirates (6-2-0) are 4-0-0 in the BIG EAST and currently have a six-game winning streak heading into a matchup with No. 8 West Virginia on Saturday, Sept. 23.
The Pirates are one of three BIG EAST schools ranked in the poll, joining West Virginia (No. 8) and South Florida (No. 16). Clemson is atop the poll, followed by Virginia, Southern Methodist, Washington and Duke to round out the top five.
Seton Hall dropped its first two games of the year, but have since reeled off six straight wins for its longest win streak since 1999. The Pirates are also 4-0-0 in the BIG EAST for the first time since 2001, after recording a pair of shutouts over the weekend. Senior Ian Joyce was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week for his efforts in the wins at Rutgers, 1-0, and Villanova, 2-0.
Seton Hall next faces eighth-ranked West Virginia on Sept. 23 at 7:00 p.m. in Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The road-trip to Morgantown, W. Va., will be the first for the Pirates since taking a 5-2 decision over the Mountaineers in 2003.
