Men's Soccer Blows By Adelphi, 4-0

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. The Seton Hall men’s soccer team extended its winning streak to four on Wednesday night with a 4-0 victory over Adelphi.  All four scores came in the second half for the Pirates (7-6-0), who return to action on Sunday at No. 4 Notre Dame.

After a scoreless first half, junior forward Eliseo Giusfredi (Paterson, N.J.) got SHU on the board.  After being taken down from behind to set up a direct free kick in the 58^th minute, Giusfredi placed a perfect shot into the top left corner of the net for his eighth goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.

Less than 10 minutes later, senior Justin McGrath (Brick, N.J.) sent a pass towards the middle to freshman Dritan Sela (Wayne, N.J.), who took control off a deflection and beat Panther keeper Vincent Treglia for his fourth tally of the year.

The Pirates kept up the pressure, extending the lead to 3-0 when junior Christian Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) headed in a rebound off a shot by freshman Steven Rose (Acton, Mass.) in the 79^th minute.

Four minutes later, Giusfredi converted a one-on-one opportunity off a long pass down the center of the field from Rose, giving him his second goal of the game and ninth of the year.  He now leads the team with 25 points.

Sophomore keeper Paul McHenry (Ephrata, Pa.) picked up his second shutout of the season, stopping nine Adelphi shots in a standout performance.  Treglia had five saves for the Panthers (2-9-2).

Adelphi outshot SHU 19-16 for the game, including an 11-9 edge in attempts on goal.
