PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Seton Hall men's soccer team came back from a two goal deficit in the second half, but fell to Providence, 3-2, in overtime. The loss drops the Pirates to 7-8 overall and 3-5 in the BIG EAST.
Providence got the scoring going when Michael Narciso found the back of the net after re-directing a corner kick that beat sophomore Paul McHenry (Ephrata, Pa.) in the 13th minute.
The Pirates saw a great opportunity pass, when freshman Brayan Martinez (West Orange, N.J.) hit the post at the 49:39 marker.
The Friars tacked another one on the board in the 59th minute when Ryan Maduro found Justin Kahle on a give and go to make it 2-0.
Seton Hall found their offensive rhythm immediately after the Providence goal. Senior Justin McGrath (Brick, N.J.) drew iron again in the 65th minute, but the Pirates kept possession and drew a foul in the goal box. Junior Eliseo Giusfredi (Paterson, N.J.) took the penalty kick and found the back of the net for the 10th time this season.
Fourteen minutes later, McGrath knotted the score at 2-2 by heading a cross from junior Christian Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) past Friar keeper Timothy Murray. The tally was McGrath's fourth of the year.
The game stayed tied until the 94th minute when Alex Redding redirected a cross from the left for the game-winning score.
Giusfredi's goal was the 30th of his career ties him with Eoin Monahan for 10th place on the Pirate career list. McHenry made three saves, while Murray stopped seven for Providence. Martinez tallied a game-high eight shots, three of them were on goal.
Seton Hall will host West Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3:00 p.m.
