Softball Drops First Two Games at Louisville Slugger Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Seton Hall softball opened the 2007 season with two losses at the Louisville Slugger Classic hosted by UNLV on Friday. The Pirates fell to Sacramento State, 3-0, and Oregon, 14-0, in five innings.
After giving up 2 runs in the bottom of the first, sophomore Kim Schweitzer (Syracuse, N.Y.) settled in and kept Seton Hall in the game. The Pirates biggest threat came in the sixth inning, when they had the bases loaded with just one out. Unfortunately a ground out and strikeout ended the rally against the Hornets.
Freshman Allison Gengler (West Chester, Pa.), in her first career game, had the only hit of the game, and Schweitzer fell to 0-1 on the year.
In the second game of the day, Oregon put up a five spot in the second inning and never looked back.
Junior Jenna Best (Medford, N.J.) went 1-for-1, with a walk.
The Pirates continue tournament play on Saturday, Feb. 18, with a game against Cal-State Fullerton at 9:00 p.m., and a match-up with Central Florida, scheduled for 11:00 p.m.
