LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Seton Hall softball team suffered two more setbacks at the Louisville Slugger Classic on Saturday. The Pirates dropped to 0-4 after losing to Cal-State Fullerton, 12-2, in five innings, and fell to Central Florida, 6-2.
In game one, the Pirates trailed, 4-0, going into the bottom of the second, when freshman Laura Baranek (Orefield, Pa.) blasted a solo shot to give Seton Hall its first run of the tournament. The Pirates struck again in their half of the third inning after sophomore Leah Menichetti (Jessup, Pa.) led off with a triple. Junior Jenna Best (Medford, N.J.) knocked her in with a base-hit.
The Titans took command in the top of the fourth, putting up six runs to end Seton Hall's chance of a comeback.
Best went 2-for-3 for the game, and junior Ashley Constantini (Newark, Del.) suffered the loss.
Seton Hall could not get their bats going against Central Florida, but were able to get runers on base in other ways. Down, 6-1, in the sixth inning, the Pirates had runners on first and second after a walk and a hit batter. A Golden Knight error brought one run home, but the Pirates grounded into a double-play as Central Florida went on for the win.
Freshman Allison Gengler (West Chester, Pa.) drove in a run, going 1-for-3 at the plate. Sophomore Kim Schweitzer (Syracuse, N.Y.) took the loss, dropping her record to 0-2.
The Pirates take on Utah State at 6:30 p.m. in day three of the Louisville Slugger Classic.
