LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Seton Hall softball team finished play at the Louisville Slugger Classic with a 10-0 loss to Utah on Friday. After their best hitting performance of the weekend against Utah State yesterday, the Pirates (0-6) had just two hits and only three players reached base.
The Utes first four hitters reached base and took an early 1-0 lead. Freshman Danielle Zanzalari (Carteret, N.J.) came into the game with two on and one out in the bottom of the first. Zanzalari allowed just one more run to keep Seton Hall in the game.
The Pirates best chance to score came in the top of the second after junior Jenna Best (Medford, N.J.) led off with single to right. With runners on first and second and two outs, a strikeout ended the scoring threat.
Utah hit back-to-back solo homeruns in the bottom of the third inning, and added another run to go up, 5-0. The Utes put up five more in the fourth, which put the eight-run rule into effect.
Sophomore Kealan Waldron (Oak Park, Ill.) had the only other Pirate hit, and junior Ashley Constantini (Newark, Del.) took the loss.
The Pirates look to pick up their first win of the season when they compete at the NFCA Leadoff Classic from Feb. 23-25, in Columbus Georgia. Seton Hall opens the tournament on Friday, Feb. 23 against Tennessee Tech at 5:00 p.m., then plays Mississippi State at 7:30 p.m.
