
Softball Over-Matched at Easton Spring Fling

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Seton Hall softball team's struggles continued in the first day of the Easton Spring Fling, hosted by Alabama. The Pirates fell to No. 11 Louisiana-Lafayette, 18-0, and No. 3 Alabama, 12-0. Seton Hall (1-12) combined for just four hits in the two games.
In game one, the Pirates fell behind, 5-0, after surrendering two home runs in the top of the second inning. Seton Hall tried to capitalize in the bottom half with, after Shannon Pease (Binghamton, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch and Danielle Steinseifzer (Plano, Texas) singled to short, but a strikeout ended that threat.
The Ragin' Cajuns tacked on four runs in the third, and another nine in the fourth to end the game after the fifth inning.
Alabama struck in the bottom of the first, putting two runs on the board. Trailing 9-0, Christina Sammarco's (Pompton Lakes, N.J) double gave the Pirates' their first hit of the contest, but Sammarco was left stranded.
After the Tide put up three more runs, Seton Hall showed signs of life putting together a one out rally in the fifth inning. Sophomore Amanda Winn's (Manahawkin, N.J.) base-hit put runners on first and second, but once again the Pirates could not get that key hit.
Seton Hall will face the Ragin' Cajuns at noon and the Tide at 5:00 p.m. in day two of the round robin tournament.
