SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall head men’s soccer coach Manfred Schellscheidt has announced the signing of eight high school seniors to National Letters of Intent. Kurt Cameron, Sean Carr, Spencer Lawrence, Bryan Longo, Brayan Martinez, Hayden Morris, Steven Rose, and Andrew Welker will suit up for the Pirates beginning in the fall of 2007.
Cameron, from the Bronx, N.Y., led Cardinal Spellman with 26 goals and 10 assists as a senior while earning team and New York City Catholic High School Division B MVP honors. He was a member of the New York State ODP team for three years and played club for Arsenal Premier/World Class.
Carr, a goalkeeper from Glendora, N.J., was the 2006 team MVP of St. Augustine Prep with a 0.52 goals against average. He recorded 26 shutouts over his final two seasons, and as a senior was named The Daily Journal Player of the Year, First Team All-Cape Atlantic League, Courier Post First Team All-South Jersey, and Honorable Mention All-State. Carr played four seasons of varsity soccer.
Lawrence, from Monroe Township, N.J., was a four-year varsity starter at Monroe Township High School. He tallied 10 goals and 16 assists as a senior, earning All-Division, All-Conference, All-Area, and All-State accolades. Lawrence was a member of the 2002 New Jersey ODP State Team and the 2003 ODP Area Team.
Longo comes to Seton Hall from Lexington, Mass, where he led Lexington High School to two league championships. As a senior, he was named All-State, an Eastern Massachusetts All-Star, All-Scholastic by the Boston Globe and Boston Herald, and the Middlesex League MVP. Longo was a three-time league all-star, as well as a two-year member of the Region I ODP pool and a 2006 Region I ODP team member.
Martinez, a midfielder from nearby West Orange, N.J., is a two-time NSCAA/adidas Boys High School All-American and Star-Ledger Player of the Year. He totaled over 80 goals and assists in his final three seasons despite missing part of his senior year due to injury. Martinez guided West Orange High School to the NJSIAA Group 4 championship as a senior while being named the Gatorade State Player of the Year and All-Conference, All-Area, All-County, and All-State. He is also a member of the PDA Vieira club team.
Morris, a midfielder from Armork, N.Y., was a 2006 NSCAA/adidas Boys High School All-American at Byram Hills High School. As a senior, he was named league MVP and Journal News Player of the Year while leading Westchester County with 25 assists to go along with 10 goals. Morris was a member of the New York State ODP from 2003-2007, playing five years on the regional team in addition to one year in the national pool.
Rose, who hails from Acton, Mass., led Acton-Boxborough High School to a 67-13-8 record as a four-year starter at center midfielder. As a senior he was named team and Dual County League MVP while also earning All-State, All-New England, and Boston Globe All-Scholastic honors. Rose was a member of the Massachusetts ODP from 2003-2007 and the Region I ODP Pool in 2004 and 2006 while also gaining club experience with the FC Greater Boston Bolts.
Welker, a native of Mechanicsburg, Pa., was a three-year letterwinner at Cumberland Valley High School. He was named the 2006 Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division Player of the Year while leading his team to back-to-back division championships. Welker was a member of the Patriot News Big 11 First Team and the All-Sentinel Boys Soccer First Team, while also being named All-State by the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association and All-Region II by the NSCAA. From 2002-2006, Welker was a member of the Eastern Pennsylvania ODP.
