Facing an aggressive attack from Penn (0-1-0), the SHU defense staved off the Quakers early on while capitalizing on two penalty kicks. Junior Eliseo Giusfredi (Paterson, N.J.) connected on a pair of attempts, one in the seventh minute and one in the 14th minute, beating Penn goaltender Keith Sweetland to the right both times. The Pirates withstood the physical play of the Quakers and carried the two-goal lead into halftime. In the 52nd minute, junior Christian Vercollone ( The pair would strike again just over three minutes later when Vercollone sent a perfect lob pass down the middle to Welker, who beat Sweetland to the left to make it 4-0 in favor of the Pirates. Penn got on the board in the 61st minute when Kevin Unger blasted a high shot into the back of the net off a pass from Alex Grendi. SHU quickly answered, as less than two minutes later senior Jon Lewandowski ( Grendi recorded the final tally of the game in the 79th minute. SHU finished with a 19-16 advantage in shots, including an 8-6 edge in shots on goal. Giusfredi led the way with three attempts while four other players had two each.
