ONEONTA, N.Y. The Seton Hall men’s soccer team dropped to 2-1-0 on the season after falling 2-1 to Syracuse on Friday night at the Mayor’s Cup Tournament in Oneonta, N.Y. The Pirates will face Hartwick on Sep. 9 at 3:30 p.m. in the final tournament game.
Junior Eliseo Giusfredi (Paterson, N.J.) scored the lone Pirate goal, an unassisted effort just 39 seconds into the game.
The Orange answered late in the first half when Justin Arena’s cross was put home by Tom Perevegyencev in the 42nd minute. The teams went into halftime tied 1-1.
Syracuse scored the decisive goal in the 67th minute when Hansen Woodruff scored off a rebound to make it 2-1.
The Pirates held the edge in shots, 17-10, as well as shots on goal, 7-5. SHU also had a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Giusfredi had a game-high seven shots, while freshman Brayan Martinez (West Orange, N.J.) followed with three. Sophomore goalkeeper Paul McHenry (Ephrata, Pa.) made three saves while taking the loss.
