Men's Soccer Earns 1-1 Tie at West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. The Seton Hall men’s soccer team continued its tough play on the road on Saturday night, earning a 1-1 tie at West Virginia.  The Pirates (6-6-3, 2-3-3) rallied late to send the game into overtime and pick up a point in the BIG EAST standings.

With the Hall trailing 1-0 in the 87^th minute, sophomore Jerry Saintil (East Orange, N.J.) disrupted a clearing attempt by the Mountaineers (4-5-5, 2-4-4) before controlling the ball and firing past keeper Zach Johnson to even the score.  The goal was Saintil’s first as a Pirate.

Seton Hall kept pressuring in the first overtime, unleashing three shots in four and a half minutes, but Johnson made a pair of saves and the West Virginia defense blocked the other.  Johnson stopped a Saintil attempt in the 96^th minute and the match moved into a second overtime session.

SHU proceeded to outshoot the Mountaineers by a 4-1 margin in the final 10 minutes, but neither time managed a game-winner.

West Virginia picked up its lone goal of the evening in the 61^st minute when Adam Mills converted a pass from Paul Paradise for a 1-0 lead.

Junior Paul McHenry (Ephrata, Pa.) had four saves in net for the Hall, while Johnson made 11 stops on a busy night in goal for WVU.  Seton Hall had a decisive 25-9 edge in shots, including a 13-5 edge in attempts on goal.

Saintil led all players with five shots, while sophomore Brayan Martinez (West Orange, N.J.) and freshman Giovanni Zammiello (Randolph, N.J.) added four each for the Pirates.  Paradise paced the Mountaineers with four shots.

SHU is back in action at home on Wednesday night when Notre Dame visits for a 7:00 p.m. match.
