Men's Soccer Falls at #15 UConn, 2-1

STORRS, Conn. The Seton Hall men’s soccer team dropped its regular season finale on Friday night, falling at #15 Connecticut, 2-1.  With the loss, the Pirates (6-8-4, 2-5-4) are eliminated from contention for a berth in the BIG EAST Championship.

UConn (9-3-6, 6-3-2) jumped out to an early lead in the 16^th minute when Shawn Nicklaw scored off a failed SHU clearing attempt of a corner kick, making it 1-0.

The Pirates wasted little time in evening things back up.  Less than two minutes later, sophomore Jerry Saintil (East Orange, N.J.) ripped a shot from the top of the box into the lower right corner of the net, beating Huskies’ keeper Josh Ford for his second goal of the season and tying the score, 1-1.

Three saves by junior Hall goalkeeper Paul McHenry (Ephrata, Pa.) in the final three and a half minutes before halftime sent the game in the break still even.

The Huskies finally regained the lead with a goal in the 82^nd minute.  Dori Arad put home a cross from Tony Cascio to make it 2-1 with time winding down.

UConn finished the night with a 19-17 shot advantage, including a 9-6 edge in attempts on goal.  Sophomore Dritan Sela (Wayne, N.J.) led the Hall with two shots, while Arad had a game-high five for the Huskies.

McHenry posted seven saves for the Pirates, while Ford stopped five shots for UConn.
