WASHINGTON, D.C. The Seton Hall softball team fell to 8-9 on the season after losing to Mt. St. Mary’s in the final game of the Hoya Invitational, 2-0.

Courtney Zingle’s first inning single off SHU’s Ashley Forsyth (Freehold, N.J.) scored Jess Burke and Lisa Curreri for the game’s only runs.  Jamie Fowler picked up the win on the mound, scattering six hits while striking out two.

Seton Hall had runners on base in every inning but could not come up with the key hit.  With a final chance to tie in the seventh inning, junior Leah Menichetti (Jessup, Pa.) reached on an error leading off.  But the 2-3-4 hitters, junior Kealan Waldron (Oak Park, Ill.), senior Jenna Best (Medford, N.J.), and junior Shannon Pease (Binghamton, N.Y.), were retired in order as Mt. St. Mary’s escaped.

Freshman Brittany Schillizzi (Paramus, N.J.) went 2-for-3 to lead the Hall.  Menichetti, Best, and seniors Ashley Constantini (Newark, Del.) and Christa Leighton (Brewster, N.Y.) each picked up a base hit.
