In game one, sophomore pitcher Ashley Forsyth (Freehold, N.J.) was locked in from the get-go, striking out five of the first six Marist hitters and seven through the first three innings. Megan Rigos was just as good for the Red Foxes, whiffing five without allowing a hit through three. The game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth, when Marist’s Melissa Giordano launched a two-out homerun over the right field fence to make it 1-0. The Pirates remained hitless until the top of the seventh when junior Leah Menichetti ( Forsyth (6-6) took the loss, allowing just three hits while striking out 10. Rigos (7-6) struck out seven for the Red Foxes. SHU struck early in game two when freshman Michelle Reed (Wrightstown, N.J.), who singled and stole second to start the Pirates’ first, scored on an RBI single by Menichetti to make it 1-0. Waldron followed with a bloop double before Best cleared the bases with a three-run homer to make it 4-0. With one away, junior Shannon Pease ( With one down in the bottom of the third, junior Daria Glynos ( Marist got on the board in the top of the fifth inning off SHU freshman Katie Stilwell ( Stilwell (1-0) picked up her first collegiate win, striking out a career-high 10 while scattering eight hits over seven innings.
