TAMPA, Fla. The Seton Hall softball team was swept by USF 4-0 and 9-1 in BIG EAST action on Sunday. The Pirates are now 10-17 overall and 0-6 in the conference.

An Aya Nakajima RBI single and a bases loaded walk put the Bulls on top 2-0 in the bottom of the second off of starting pitcher Ashley Forsyth (Freehold, N.J.).

The Pirates had an opportunity to get on the board in the fifth inning with a two-out rally. Senior Christa Leighton (Brewster, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch, and Ashley Constantini (Newark, Del.) gave Seton Hall its first hit of the game after she singled to short. Junior Leah Menichetti (Jessup, Pa.) drew a walk to load the bases for pinch-hitter Amanda Winn (Manahawkin, N.J.), but could not put anything on the board after a ground out.

The Bulls tacked on a run off of relief pitcher Kim Schweitzer (Syracuse, N.Y.) in the sixth as they went on for the win.

Forsyth (6-8) pitched five innings and fanned four batters. Senior Jenna Best (Medford, N.J.) was the only other player with a hit in game one.

Seton Hall’s starting pitcher in game two, Katie Stilwell (Portage, Wisc.) allowed the first three runners to get on base in the first, and USF capitalized to take a 4-0 lead.

The Pirates finally got on the scoreboard after Kealan Waldron (Oak Park, Ill.) hit a solo home-run to cut it to a three run deficit.

However, the Bulls scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth off of Schweitzer to enforce the eight-run rule.

Seton Hall will host Monmouth for a double-header on Wednesday, April 2, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
