
Softball Picks Up Split At UConn

The Huskies got on the board first with a solo home run by Erin Burtner off starting pitcher Ashley Forsyth (Freehold, N.J.) in the third inning.

In the bottom of the frame, Burtner started things off with a double, and came around to score on a triple by Jillian Ortega. Forsyth got the second out of the inning with a ground out, but Sarah Neuschwander’s infield single gave UConn the lead for good.
Forsyth earned the decision, hurling 5.2 innings allowing three runs on nine hits.

With runners on first and second with one down, Burtner laid down a sacrifice bunt, but an error by first baseman Shannon Pease (Binghamton, N.Y.) allowed both runners to score, making it a 2-1 game.
Winn gave the Pirates the lead right back in the top of the third when she delivered a three-run homer, plating senior Jenna Best (
In the seventh, the Pirates loaded the bases with nobody out for Schillizzi, who drove in Winn and Waldron to put the game out of reach.
Forsyth (10-12) threw another complete game, allowing just two earned runs while striking out two. Pease was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Glynos was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI’s.
The Pirates will face LIU for a double-header on Thursday, April 17, in
