
Softball Gets No-Hit; Swept at LIU

In the first, Seton Hall put runners on first and second off two LIU errors, but could not bring in any runs. Those would be the only base-runners for the Pirates in game one.
Sophomore Kim Schweitzer (
Mareisha Marker and Jessie DePippo each registered RBI hits, and Brittany Murphy hit a two-run shot to make it 5-0 after three innings.
With the bases loaded with Blackbirds in the fourth, Schweitzer threw a wild pitch to add another insurance run. A run scoring double and a sacrifice fly made it 8-0 to enforce the eight-run rule.
Schweitzer (3-7) threw four innings, and allowed just three earned runs on nine hits.
In game two, Celina Castillo hit a ball just out of the reach of centerfielder Ashley Constantini (
Constantini gave the Pirates their first hit of the twinbill after blooping a single behind first base, but senior Christa Leighton (
DePippo launched a solo-shot in the bottom of the inning off freshman Katie Stilwell (
Murphy reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases, but Jones forced a pair of pop ups, and a line out to short to get out of the jam.
The Pirates threatened in the fourth after Menichetti started the inning with a walk. Junior Kealan Waldron (
LIU tacked on three more runs in the fourth to extend the advantage to 6-0, and Renae Beauchman hit a pinch-hit two-run homer in the fifth to force the eight-run rule.
Stilwell (2-5) returned to pitch in the fourth, allowed five runs while striking out three. Constantini was 2-for-2 from the plate
