SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. The Seton Hall softball team was swept by Notre Dame by the counts of 12-1 and 6-2 at Ivy Hill Park on Sunday. The Pirates fall to 13-20 overall and 2-8 in the BIG EAST.

Katie Fleury gave the Irish (22-10, 5-1) the lead after a two-run single off freshman Katie Stilwell (Portage, Wisc.) in the first.

Notre Dame put up back-to-back five run innings in the third and fourth innings to go ahead 12-0.

In the seventh, senior Jenna Best (Medford, N.J.) recorded Seton Hall’s first hit since the first inning, and advanced to second on an error by the centerfielder. Junior Kealan Waldron (Oak Park, Ill.) followed up with a single, and Best crossed home plate after a misplay by the rightfielder.

With two away, freshman Jamie Gates (Emmaus, Pa.) walked, but starting pitcher forced a ground out to end any chance for a rally.

Stilwell (2-3) faced three batters in the first inning without recording an out, then returned to pitch the final two-plus innings. Best was the only player with multiple hits for the Pirates, and junior Leah Menichetti’s (Jessup, Pa.) 21-game on-base streak ended.

Menichetti opened game two by reaching base on a throwing error by pitcher Jody Valdivia, and moved to second on a passed ball. Waldron delivered a double down the leftfield line to give Seton Hall a 1-0 edge after one inning.

Freshman Brittany Schillizzi (Paramus, N.J.) made it 2-0 by taking a 3-2 pitch out of the ballpark in the second.

The Irish put two on the board in the third with RBI singles by Katie Laing and Ashley Ellis off sophomore Ashley Forsyth (Freehold, N.J.). Notre Dame took the lead for good in the fourth with a Brianna Jorgensborg two-run long-ball.

Forsyth (7-10) threw 5.1 innings and allowed four earned runs. Freshman Nalin Bennett (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and senior Christa Leighton (Brewster, N.Y.) were the only other Pirates with hits.
