SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's swimming and diving team defeated Howard Friday evening at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium in South Orange by a final of, 158-83.
Senior Natalie Toczylowski (Sandwich, Mass.) picked up a first place time in the 1,000-yard freestyle with sophomore Megan Rathbun (Long Valley, N.J.) finishing second. Junior Kara Walbaum (Long Valley, N.J.) led the way in the 100-yard backstroke with sophomore Marilyn Purvis (Old Saybrook, Conn.) finished second and freshman Carly Winton (Hainesport, N.J.) recording the third place time. Purvis also added a first place BIG EAST qualifying time in the 200-yard backstroke.
Sophomore Rose Virgilio (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) earned conference qualifying times in the 50-yard freestyle with a first place finish and second in the 200-yard freestyle. Freshman Alie Zelenky (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) finished second in the 50-yard freestyle behind Virgilio to pick up valuable points for the women.
Junior Brittany Henning (Batavia, Ill.) finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a conference qualifying time while sophomore Kaley Swider (Galloway, N.J.) did the same with a second place finish in the race. Freshman Andrea Shuba (Pittsburgh, Pa.) rounded out the day for the women with a top time in the 200-yard freestyle.
In the diving events, red-shirt sophomore Brittany Hervey (Bethpage, N.Y.) and senior Ashley Williams (Clearwater, Fla.) earned BIG EAST qualifying scores in the 1-meter and 3-meter events with sophomore Kaitlyn Karl (Erie, Pa.) earning herself a qualifying score in the 1-meter event.
The women's swimming and diving team will return to action when they host Rider Friday, October 23 beginning at 5:00 p.m.
