SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - A pair of second half goals by Tony Cascio gave #10 Connecticut a 3-1 win over Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon. The Pirates (4-8-3, 1-5-3) are back in action on Wednesday night at Pittsburgh.
The Huskies (10-2-3, 7-1-1) got on the board first by way of an own goal in the 26th minute, when a throw-in went off the foot of a Pirate defender before deflecting off the post and trickling in.
Seton Hall evened the match in the 38th minute when junior Dritan Sela (Wayne, N.J.) sent a pass through the middle to classmate Andrew Welker (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), who found the back of the net from 15 yards out for his eighth goal of the season. The game went into halftime tied at one.
In the 55th minute, Cascio scored from the middle off a feed by Stephane DIOP to put the Huskies back in front. Less than six minutes later, Carlos Alvarez sent a pass down the center to Shawn Nicklaw, who worked the ball across the box to Cascio for his second score of the match.
Senior Paul McHenry (Ephrata, Pa.) made six saves in net for the Pirates, while Josh Ford matched that total for Connecticut.
The Hall finished with an 18-13 edge in shots, with the Huskies holding a 9-7 advantage in attempts on goal. Four different Pirates had three shots, while Cascio launched a game-high eight for Connecticut.
