
Women's Swimming And Diving Defeats Iona, 127-102

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The women's swimming and diving team improved their 2009-10 overall record to 4-2 by defeating Iona, 127-102, Tuesday evening at the Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium in South Orange.
Senior Natalie Toczylowski (Sandwich, Mass.), red-shirt sophomore Brittany Hervey (Bethpage, N.Y.), and freshman Brenna O'Keefe (Hyde Park, N.Y.) each picked up two first place finishes leading the way. Toczylowski earned her top times in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle, while O'Keefe picked up her times in the 400-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly. Hervey picked up where she left off over the weekend with strong performances in the 1 and 3-meter diving events.
Sophomores Rose Virgilio (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) and Kaley Swider (Galloway, N.J.) turned in important points for the Pirates with two second place finishes each. Virgilio scored hers in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle while Swider took home her times in the 400-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly. Senior Kaitlyn Hafner (Cinnaminson, N.J.) added another second place finish for the Hall in the 200-yard freestyle.
Finally, junior Kara Walbaum (Long Valley, N.J.) earned a qualifying trip to the BIG EAST Championships with a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke
In addition to Hervey, senior Ashley Williams (Clearwater, Fla.) recorded second place in the 1 and 3-meter events while sophomore Kaitlyn Karl (Erie, Pa.) finished third.
The women's swimming and diving team will return to action when they travel to Fairfax, Va. to compete in the three-day Patriot Invitational on Friday, November 20.
