CHARLOTTE, N.C The Seton Hall softball team lost to St. Francis (Pa.), 4-2, in the consolation game of the First Pitch Classic on Sunday. The Pirates are now 2-7 on the season.
The Red Flash scored four runs off starting pitcher Kim Schweitzer (Syracuse, N.Y.), who was lifted after just 1.2 innings of work and took the loss.
Seton Hall mounted a comeback bid in the fourth inning after an error by the St. Francis third baseman allowed Kristen Kaelin (Parlin, N.J.) to score. With runners on first and second, sophomore Brittany Schillizzi (Paramus, N.J.) singled to centerfield, who misplayed the ball, allowing another run to cross the plate to pull the Pirates within 4-2.
SHU put runners on in the fifth and sixth innings, but could not bring in another run.
Junior Danielle Zanzalari (Carteret, N.J.) had a strong performance out of the bullpen, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing no runs and just one hit.
The Pirates head to Baltimore, Md. for the UMBC Dawg Pound Classic from March 6-8 against Drexel, Marist, Brown, Fairleigh Dickinson, and UMBC.
