SCOUTING THE HOYAS
Georgetown has lost five-straight, including its first two conference double-headers at Pittsburgh and USF over the weekend. This is the Hoyas first season as a BIG EAST softball program. Mackensey Carter is Georgetown’s top offensive player along with being the club’s number-one pitcher. At the plate, Carter is hitting a robust .409 with six doubles and 10 RBI. Her pitching record is just 1-10, but Carter has a respectable 2.76 ERA. The Hoyas other starting pitcher is Jennifer Connell, who is more of a strikeout hurler than Carter. She is 4-7 with a 3.69 ERA and 52 K’s.
PIRATES DIG THE LONG BALL
After hitting just four home runs in their first 17 games, the Pirates have gone deep nine times in their last six, including a four home run outburst against Mt. St. Mary’s.
FRONT RUNNERS
Seton Hall is a perfect 9-0 when they lead after four innings. The Pirates are also 6-1 when they score first.
SCHILLIZZI SHINES
Sophomore Brittany Schillizzi tied SHU’s single-game record with six RBI against Mt. St. Mary’s on Mar. 14. Schillizzi is the fifth player to reach that total. For her efforts at the Maryland Invite, she was named tot the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
LET’S TURN TWO
Seton Hall has shown an uncanny knack for turning the double play. The Pirates have fielded 13 DP’s on the season, which is tops in the conference.
KLEPTOMANIACS
Seton Hall has been aggressive on the base paths to begin the year. The Pirates are 42-of-50 on steals so far on the season and are second in the BIG EAST in that category. Sophomore Michelle Reed is 15-for-16, and has already eclipsed her stolen base total from the 2008 season.
