Softball Visits Providence to Wrap Up Road-Trip

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. The Seton Hall softball team concludes its 12-game road-trip at Providence as they take on the Friars for a double-header on Saturday. The Pirates (17-19-1) are coming off a sweep of Marist, which ended a four-game losing streak.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS

Providence ended a six-game losing streak on Thursday after topping Villanova, 4-3, in game two of a double-header on Thursday. The Friars charged by Mary Rose Sheehy on offense, who is hitting a robust .368 with four dingers and 23 RBI. Danielle Bertolette and Jennifer Maccio should be the starting pitchers that will face the Pirates. Bertolette has a 4-13 record with a 3.22 ERA, and has fanned 58 batters. Maccio is 3-4 and has an ERA of 4.38 in 18 appearances.

 

REED TIES SINGLE-SEASON STEAL RECORD

Sophomore Michelle Reed stole three bases at Marist on Apr. 9, giving her 22 on the season to tie Seton Hall’s single-season steal record. Reed has also moved up to sixth place in career steals with 34 in under two seasons. She is 31 swipes away from that record.

PEASE’S BIG DAY

Senior Shannon Pease went deep three-times in SHU’s double-dip at Iona on Apr. 7, including a two home run performance in game one. It is just the eighth time a Pirate has recorded a pair of round trippers in one game.

RIPPING THE RANKED

For the second consecutive weekend, the Pirates knocked off a ranked conference opponent when they upset No. 20 DePaul 4-3 in the second game of a twinbilling on Apr. 4. SHU also knocked off No. 14 Louisville, 6-5, in game two of a double-header on March 29. The Pirates are now 4-4 against ranked teams in their last eight tries.

IT’S A DRAW

Seton Hall’s 3-3 tie with Monmouth on April 1 was the team’s first stalemate since April 25, 2000 when they played to a scoreless draw against St. Peter’s.
