The Wildcats loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth inning, but Schweitzer forced Meghan Morese to ground into a 5-2-3 double play to prevent Villanova from scoring. The next batter hit a ground ball to Schillizzi, who was interfered with to get the final out.
In the sixth, the Wildcats threatened again by putting runners on the corners. Villanova’s Jamie O’Hara stole second base and Shannon O’Brien took off for home on the throw to second to cut the deficit in half. Schweitzer ended the threat by getting Eryn Teague to ground out to second base, and retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh.
Freshman Kristen Kaelin (Parlin, N.J.) got Seton Hall on the board in the first inning of game one with a two-out double to Schillizzi, who drew a walk prior to Kaelin’s at bat.
Seton Hall extended the lead to 2-0 in the third after Waldron started the frame off with a double, and came around to score on an RBI single from Amanda Winn (
Jackie Dempsey tied the score with a double to the gap in right-center in the bottom of the inning, and Meghan Morese followed with a base-hit, putting the Wildcats ahead, 3-2. With two away, Jess O’Boyle pushed the advantage to 5-2, jacking a two-run homer to left-center.
