Kim Schweitzer Named to BIG EAST Softball Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. Senior pitcher Kim Schweitzer (Syracuse, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after going 2-0 with a 1.67 ERA in three appearances last week.

Schweitzer played the role of stopper in a pair of game two’s of BIG EAST double-headers to keep Seton Hall’s postseason hopes alive. Each of her wins came after the Pirates had dropped the opening games of their respective series.

She tossed a complete-game, allowing just one run on eight hits in a 2-1 victory over Villanova. In a tight spot against the Wildcats, Schweitzer did what she does best, trusting her defense to get out of a jam. With the bases loaded with no outs in the fifth inning in a two-run ballgame, she forced a timely groundball for a 5-2-3 double play to prevent a run from crossing in a tight ballgame, and later got out of the inning unscathed after getting a groundout to second base.

Schweitzer closed the week with another fine performance at Rutgers, tying a career-best with her 13^th win of the season after allowing just two runs on five hits in a complete-game victory.

The Pirates wrap up their regular season with a double-header at Ivy Hill Park against Sacred Heart on Tuesday, April 28, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
