
Softball Drops Two to Sacred Heart to End Regular Season

The Pioneers (20-26) put runs on the board in the second and third innings of the opener to take a 2-0 lead. Seton Hall cut the deficit in half by loading the bases and scoring after Kristen Kaelin (
In the bottom of the fourth, the Pirates tied the game on a Leah Menichetti (
The Pioneers scored four runs, capitalizing on four walks and two hits to take a 6-2 advantage.
Kaelin brought in her second RBI with by reaching on another fielder’s choice in the bottom of the frame. With runners on the corners and one out, the Seton Hall Co-Female Freshman of the Year hit a grounder to the second baseman, who flipped to second base to record the force out to score Reed again.
Once again, Sacred Heart answered right back putting up three runs in the sixth to bring the lead to 9-3.

Jen Russell was finally able to record the first two outs with back-to-back strikeouts, leaving the game in the hands of Reed. Reed hit a ground ball to third, and Jill Timmer fired a low throw home, but catcher Shannon McCoy made a nice pick at the plate to end the game.
Menichetti went 2-for-4 and became just the fourth player in school history to play in 200 career games. Winn was 3-for-3 from the plate.

In game two, Sacred Heart jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and also scored unearned runs in the third and fourth innings to extend the margin to four.
In the bottom of the fifth, Seton Hall got on the board after Schillizzi singled off the pitcher’s glove to score Reed.
The fourth Pirate error of the game in the sixth inning allowed another run to cross the plate in the sixth to round out the scoring.
Schweitzer (13-11) was the tough-luck loser, allowing just two earned runs on nine hits, while fanning a season-high seven batters.
Seton Hall still has a chance to qualify for the BIG EAST Championships, but must wait for the rest of the league to wrap up the regular season this weekend.
